Ash Wednesday ONLINE Service with Compton Heights Christian Church on March 2, 2022 at 7 p.m.

Oak Hill has been invited once again to share in an Ash Wednesday service with our friends at Compton Heights Christian Church on Ash Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. This will be an online service.  The Zoom login information is given below.

Also: if you should wish to participate during the service in the traditional Ash Wednesday imposition of ashes on forehead or hand, here is a link to a video that gives instructions on how to prepare ashes for this purpose: https://youtu.be/Hq3zZyOvCbo. It is the same video, prepared by Madison Peterson, that was made available for Ash Wednesday last year. We are grateful to Madison and to Compton Heights for this help.

Compton Heights Christian Church is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Congregational Meeting – 11/7

Join us after worship, both online and in-person, on Sunday 11/7 for a Congregational Meeting.

Pastor Erin has announced her resignation as Pastor at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. You can read her letter to the congregation here. Her last Sunday will be Nov. 14th and her last day in the office will be Nov. 17th. The Session has called a Congregational Meeting for Sunday Nov. 7, 2021 after worship to act on Pastor Erin’s request to dissolve her pastoral call, and at the meeting we will also receive the report from the nominating committee, and receive the asking budget for 2022.

After the meeting, we will be making a special field trip to a special secret location for lunch. Pack a bag lunch and get ready for a fun little adventure!

See you there!

Halloween at Oak Hill

Join us outside, starting around 5:30 to hand out candy, listen to some wonderfully terrible kid jokes, and chat by the fire pit. An annual Oak Hill tradition, adults and kids and fun people of all ages are invited to help us greet our neighbors and share in a spooky good time. Sunday 10/31 from around 5:30-8:30 p.m. Costumes encouraged!

OHPC at Tower Grove Pride 9/25

Join us outside in the park this Saturday from 11am-6pm for Tower Grove Pride! Oak Hill will have a booth full of art activities and candy and fun! You can find us on the south, kinda west-ish part of the festival. There will be great music and events throughout the day! We can’t wait to see you there!

Click here for more info about Tower Grove Pride.

Rally Day – Sept 12

Come one, come all, bring your friends and invite your neighbors. (Well, with masks and distancing, of course.)

We will gather for outdoor worship, games, snacks and fun to celebrate Rally Day on Sept. 12th at 10:30 a.m.

We will share in worship outside (weather permitting). We invite you to bring your own lunch. We will provide drinks and chips. Then stay after worship for games and all kinds of silliness outside.

You can download the worship bulletin here.

We hope to see you there!

Two ways to Get involved this weekend!

Saturday at 10 a.m.- Isaiah 58 Back to School Fair
Isaiah 58’s annual Back to School Fair and Blessing of the Backpacks is Saturday, July 24. We need a few volunteers to join us in running a Tic Tock Toe booth from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you are interested and available to volunteer, please contact Donna Cook. And if you can’t volunteer, just come stop by and say hi to support this great event and organization!
For more info about Isaiah 58 Ministries, please click here.

Saturday at 9 a.m.- MCU Clean Air Action
Air quality is a leading environmental justice issue taking lives. We are ready to do something about it. MCU’s environmental task force is working with activists in MO and IL to draw attention to the need to:

Abolish pollutants in our air
Invest in clean energy
Restore riverside communities

On Saturday, July 24, from 9-11 a.m. join environmental justice organizers from BOTH sides of the river at the center of the McKinley Bridge. Bring friends! Make signs! We want to bring out numbers high enough to grab the attention of politicians throughout the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. You can find more information and sign up to attend by clicking here.

Front Porch Meetings

As we are returning to worship and returning to in-person gatherings, and finding ways to reconnect, we thought it was the perfect time to build some new relationships, too.

The Mission and Justice Committee has reached out to a few of our local elected officials to set up time for them to come to the church, so we can get to know one another, build relationships, and talk about the issues we care about in our community. We’re calling them Front Porch Meetings (because we’ll meet on the front porch at church, outside with plenty of room for distancing).

The first Front Porch Meeting will be on Thursday July 22* from 6:30-7:30 p.m. with State Representative Peter Merideth. We’ll provide some cool drinks and light snacks, you bring your own camp chair and any questions you might have for Rep. Merideth.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

*Please note date change from July 15 to July 22, due to a scheduling conflict.

Get Your Summer Reading Going! (And join our Book Clubs to Discuss!)

Did you know that Oak Hill Church has two book clubs? Summer is a great time to get reading, then join us for discussion! Check out what we are reading this summer!

The Oak Hill Book Club is meeting in person on July 13th at the Barrow home to discuss “Things in Jars” by Jess Kidd. You are welcome to join us! Email Pastor Erin for details. This book group will take a vacation in August.

The Touchy Topics Book and Discussion Group is meeting on Zoom on July to discuss “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. And In August we’ll be talking about “A Knock at Midnight: A Story of Hope Justice and Freedom” by Brittnay Barnett.
Zoom Meeting ID: 259 777 226.

Oh, and as a bonus, our Wednesday Bible Study Class is still working our way through Amy-Jill Levine’s “Short Stories by Jesus”. Join us on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. on Zoom if you’d like to discuss this one!
